I wish I had been more interested in researching JW's faith at the time I agreed to have my wife take my two children to those indoctrinating meetings sixteen years ago. Had I done that research, it's unlikely that my young daughter would be one of the baptized slaves of the governing body and I wouldn't have such a hard time erasing the JW robotic program from my unbaptized younger son. However, it's this strong desire to remove the program from my children's brain that has led me in the path of researching some fascinating subjects such as neo-Babylonian history, astronomy and archeology.

Do-Overs...What if you could have just one....What would it be? Why?
by Terry inas we grow older and have more life experience we have an advantage in looking at our life as a whole.. we can see things from more than one perspective.
we can be wiser as our emotions cool.
hindsight gives us the power to judge outcomes.. for example, i was thinking about a 20 year chunk of my life.

In the last six months I have learned so much about JW's from the "apostate" books and web sites such as JWfacts and this great site. Ever since I started my research on JW's three adjectives to describe the WTS leadership came to mind: DECEPTIVE, ARROGANT and MANIPULATIVE. I just noticed today that the first letters create the acronym DAM. It seems that I just need the letter N to form DAMN. I know the following request is on the trivial side but I would appreciate if some of you can provide adjectives or nouns that describe the leadership of the WTS and also start with the letter N... "Nitwits" fits well but not good enough.

I Donated to Wikipedia
by RayPublisher ineven though wikipedia isn't perfect, and you still have to vet and research anything you read online, it has proved invaluable to me and many others out there over the last few years since we learned ttatt.
articles on jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower corporations, as well as cognitive dissonance, et al.
have made it a great place to help those that want to free their minds, which includes me lol!.

I donated $25 few month ago. I feel it's time to do it again. The work they do is great. I know it is not accurate, but is 10000 percent more dependable than the WTS publications. It's more than sufficient for the casual reader to check on just about anything. The job those guys at Wikipedia do is better than they get credit for.

Analysis of anti-607 BCE Rebuttals
by Ethos ini agreed yesterday to engage in the '607' topic.
i've read numerous threads and am well aware that this topic has been addressed and dissected quite thoroughly.
therefore, if you are uninterested in participating, that's fine.

Conclusion:
So the ending point of the 70 years is 539 BCE.
Your conclusion implies that you trust secular chronology and history.
If you accept secular history to reach 539 BCE, you have to accept 587/586 BCE for the fall of Jerusalem too.

*gasp* Yes, educating our citizens can never lead to any good. Especially when we educate the poor, who could not afford to pay for private schools. DISASTER! No collective good can come of that!
Do people think before they post, or is this really the bubble they live in?
New chapter. Your vitriol suggests that you don't forget. One more time I apologize for past offenses. I hope you bury the hatchet soon.
True, basic education (K-12) is absolutely necessary and should be covered by everyone who can contribute, but where do you set the limit to all the freebies that the citizenry has come to expect from big brother. Common sense dictates that you acquire the goods and services that you can afford, no more. The American citizenry has gone way over budget and has burden generations to come. That's immoral.
By the way, I do live in a figurative bubble. Almost everyone around me owe their house, or their cars, or have credit cards maxed out, or are not prepared for retirement, or have to borrow for their children's higher education. Not I. I have zero debt and don't expect to have any until the day I die. I am not rich, but I live by a philosophy of self sufficiency and personal responsibility. I suppose in the U.S. that makes me weird, strange, a bubble dweller.

The problem is not Obama, or politicians in general, the problem is the people who elected him. Let's face it, the "free education, free healthcare, subsidized housing, subsidized food, subsidized transportation, etc. etc." message is more appealing to the average American than personal self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. In few years we will be the new Greece, then people will come to their senses and understand the much higher cost of having big brother administering the capital and resources of the nation.

It's Time to Dump the Hebrew Scriptures.
by smmcroberts inwhy do christian religions continue to pretend that the hebrew scriptures (aka the old testament) is god-inspired and that it describes a loving god?
don't they see that the ot is largely an embarrassment to its believers?
please read my blog to see why i think christianity should dispense with the ot all together:.

No stone cutters
Read my comment again. I thing you missed the essence, namely that we need a God to scare the living day lights out of the people who are prone to do evil.
The French Revolution was started for the right reasons, but went the wrong way. In the end, the entrenched, opressive political and religious systems were shaken for the the better, long-term that is. This forum is an example of what we owe to many of the revolutions around the world, especially the French and the American revolution.

I propose going a step further, dump the New Testament too. ... OK, let's compromise, let's keep one of the gospels for the sake of keeping the weak minded, the easily tempted, and the evil doers at bay. For my own protection I am forced to admit that I need a powerful God, even if it's an idea only, to control the evil inclinations of those who are incapable of figuring out the Golden Rule out of the context of religion..

Why I appreciate this place
by mythreesons insomeone asked in another topic essentially what is your purpose in being here?
what do you plan to accomplish?
i thought i would start this topic as a result of that one.. i personally don't think i can 'change' anybody by being here...but the way i see it, this forum gives me a place to vent.

I appreciate it because it offers public debate, common sense, and allows for differences between its members, from the very devoted believer to the staunch atheist. I also have found a stark difference between the "wonderful spiritual food" at the meetings of JW's and the much more intelligent, common sensical comments in here. This place has also been a great learning experience in the few months that I have been here.
Thank you Simon
